Japanese Ramen in Chicken Soup

Japanese ramen in Hong Kong, in general, is served in three kinds of soup, namely soyu (soya sauce), tokotsu (pork-bone soup) and miso. Torihana, a ramen shop recently opened in Tsim Sha Tsui, takes a different path and serves ramen in chicken soup.

Ramen in Chicken Soup
The chicken soup is not as greasy as pork-bone soup and has a lighter taste than soya sauce and miso, delivering a refreshing flavour, which is quite novel to the ramen category.

Pork with Rice
It is common for a ramen shop in Japan to serve ramen with a bowl of rice and Torihana follows this tradition. It may sound like a "punch" for people who try to avoid carbohydrates, but I, as a rice lover, definitely appreciate this.

Despite being located at Tsim Sha Tsui, a robust tourist and business area in Hong Kong, Torihana is quiet  (I visited there after nine on weeknight) and does not have a long queue in front of it and most customers are Japanese. With comfortable chairs and a neat environment, Torihana is a great place for relaxing after a long day.

Note: Ajisen Ramen, a ramen chain-store, is alleged to have exaggerated the nutritional data of its ramen products. If it is true, it only shows one of the evil deeds of food franchises, which is dominating Hong Kong.

  1. I usually don't eat ramen, as I prefer Chiu Chow style noodles. But that shop seems to look nice, especially if it has Japanese tenants it would mean that the style is closer to the original and not "localized".
