Hungy Korean

Hungry Korean is a new Korean fast food shop in Tsim Sha Tsui. It has a colorful and fresh layout. Customers order at the counter and the food will be cooked upon order and the waitresses will serve customers at their table. We ordered the following:

Bi Bim Bap ($39)

Traditional stone-bowled rice with your choice of meat (beef, chicken, pork or squid). The ingredients, including shredded carrots,  shredded mushrooms, bean sprouts, taste fresh. The rice adjacent to the bowl is crunchy and the rice in the middle soft. One downside is the whole dish tastes flat; it could be due to that no MSG has been added as claimed by the shop. One trick to enjoy this dish to mix the rice and the ingredients fast before the rice stick to the hot stone bowl.

Dduk Bok Gi ($28)

Rice cake in a spicy sauce with an egg. The rice cakes are chewy and not impenetrable like those bought in supermarket. The egg is hard-boiled and tastes surprisingly good with spicy sauce, the yolk in particular. The hot sauce, however, could be too spicy for some people. The portion is also small considering its price.

Gim Bap ($28)

Korean roll-sushi (I bet some Koreans may call roll-sushi "Japanese Gim Bap"). Major differences from its Japanese counterpart are (1) the seaweed is sesame oil flavored and thus is richer in taste and (2) the rice is not vinegar-ed and tastes a bit boring.

Overall, I recommend the fast food shop to people who want to have a taste of Korea at a reasonable price.

  1. It's close to where I work. I may go and try it once. Hopefully they'll have plenty of spicy kimchi!

  2. @arturosc, unfortunately, the place does not serve all-you-can-eat kimchi like those restaurants in Korea.
