Unboxing Baumkuechen (Japanese Tree-trunk Cake)

It is a pleasure to unbox a Baumkuechen, a cake which looks like the trunk horizontally cut.

The box is made of card-board and mimics a box-set of a hardcover book. Looking at it is similar to looking at your favourite book. It exemplifies the Japanese packaging art and its attention to details.

By the wordings as "Memory of Big Tree", you may consider the box the container of a book. Instead, it contains a good piece of cake.

Flipping the box and here is a brief introduction of Baumkuechen. There is also a manual about the procedures of making a Baumkuechen and details of its ingredients. From here, you could have a glimpse of the Baumkuechen.

Finally the cake! You could see alternate layers of brown and white, similar to a tree trunk.

Tasting the cake gives you a greater pleasure than unboxing it. It tastes rich as it is multi-layered. A bite could give you the texture of a sponge cake, mixed with the cripsy sugar coating, in a cinnamon aroma.
